Botox
Years of squinting, frowning, and other facial expressions can result in deep furrows between your eyebrows and fine lines along the outer corners of your eyes. While these changes are normal, many patients feel that their face takes on an unpleasant, angry, or tired appearance, and seek treatment as a result. At Renu MedSpa in Des Plaines, Illinois, and Fort Worth, Texas, Dr. Patel and his team of skilled Certified Aestheticians treat frown lines and crow’s feet using BOTOX® Cosmetic. Botox Q & A

What causes frown lines?

The lines that appear between your brows result from muscle movement and the passage of time. When powerful muscles between the brows contract, they draw the brows together, causing the skin to fold or furrow. As skin becomes less elastic with age, those folds or furrows result in stubborn lines.

What is BOTOX Cosmetic?

Botox is a 17-year-old injectable treatment for frown lines -- vertical lines between the eyebrows -- and crow’s feet (fine horizontal lines along the outer corners of the eyes). Botox is approved for use in over 75 countries, including the United States, which means studies have demonstrated that it's both safe and effective.

How does Botox work?

Botox is injected directly into the muscles that cause frown lines, enabling them to relax. When these muscles relax, the stubborn, deep lines between your brows become smooth, restoring a youthful, vibrant appearance.

Does Botox limit my facial expressions?

No, when Botox is administered by a trained and experienced physician or aesthetician, the results are natural and pleasing. You can still laugh, smile, and interact naturally with others.

What side effects can I expect to experience?

Most patients don’t experience any side effects at all, but the most common side effects include a temporary drooping of your eyelid, as well as nausea. Many patients notice some redness, mild swelling, or tenderness at each injection site, which often resolves within just an hour of treatment.

Is Botox painful?

Botox is a simple injection that's experienced much like any other injection you’ve received. You can expect to feel a slight poke or pinch when each injection is given, but the discomfort is brief. When you leave the office, you probably won’t experience any pain or discomfort at all.

What should I expect after Botox?

You can expect your appointment to be quick – likely no more than 15 minutes in length – and your results begin to appear just a few days after treatment. By day 10, you achieve peak results, which can last for up to four months.
